Description
See Your Sights Day or Night R3D Night Sights are equipped with self-illuminating tritium vials in the front and rear sight. The front sight is also equipped with a proprietary photoluminescent Glow Dot, which offers a high-contrast sight picture in bright light, absorbs ambient light, and glows in low light. The pairing of these two glowing features ensures the front sight will glow brighter than the rear. The increased illumination and size of the front sight ensures the front dot will not be confused with a rear dot in extreme low-light situations. Orange vs. Green Glow Dot/Tritium Front Sight R3D sights are available in a green or orange color option. Green glows the best, and Orange contrasts the best in bright light. Eyesight varies from person to person, and some will see one color better than the other. Choose the color that works best for you. Front Sight Install Tool XS R3D Night Sights for Glock come with a complementary front sight install tool. This Hex tool fits the front sights screw to aid in making the sights installation even more simple. There's no need to buy or find a hex tool that fits, simply unscrew the original Glock front sight, and add a dab of red lock tight then screw in your new XS front sight of choice! Built for Duty All XS night sights are CNC machined from steel bar stock in the great state of Texas. The steel construction ensures the sights are protected from drops, racking off barricades, and will hold up for years. The steel surface is blued to resist rusting with a regular cleaning and oil schedule. R3D sights are chemically resistant to acetone-based cleaning solutions and ultrasonic cleaners. The convex dot is gun powder residue resistant and can be easily wiped off with a cleaning cloth. R3D night sights offer quick sight acquisition and precision alignment. The set aligns by leveling the top of the front sight with the top of the rear sight, and equal gaping on both sides for the front blade. The front sight is 0.145" wide, and the rear notch is 0.170" wide.Use a Sight Pusher Sight pushers are a simple and effective way to install dovetail sights! Tabletop Method You can easily install your XS R3D sights with many tools you may already have at home or that can be purchased at a local hardware store without breaking the bank. Gather your file, c-clamp, hammer, etc. and for guidance check out the install video on our website. Using a Vice If you already have a vice at home this method will likely be the fastest DIY install for you. Simply gather all the components and file to fit the dovetail snuggly into the slide! Why Make 3-Dot Night Sights After 20 Years? Notch and post sights are an industry standard. Most duty grade pistols come equipped with a form of notch and post sights. Most military or law enforcement agencies require 3-dot tritium night sights to be equipped on the pistol or they are the only approved option for the department's use. We designed our R3D sights to be brighter, withstand the use and abuse in duty conditions, and drive focus to the front sight. R3D Night Sights were designed to combat 3 common issues with standard 3-dot sights. 1. Confusing the front dot with one of the rear sight dots when under stress. In extreme low-light or during an adrenaline rush in a defensive situation, it is possible to mix up glowing dots in low light. Our photoluminescent glow dot in the front sight has a bright color that differentiates the front dot from the 2-dot rear. The glow dot is charged by surrounding ambient light and the tritium vial, ensuring the front sight is always glowing brighter than the rear. 2. 2-Dot tritium rear sights appear to glow brighter than the front sight. Most 3-dot night sights use the same tritium vial across all three vials. The two lamps appear brighter due to the rear sight being closer to the eye and draw focus there as opposed to the front sight and downrange to the threat. R3D front sights use a 30% larger lamp, plus our colored photoluminescent glow dot to glow brighter than the rear. 3. Tight sight pictures. Most notch and post sights on the market use a notch that is the width of the front post or nominally wider. They rely on the pistol’s slide length to allow visible light around the front post. Tight sight pictures are great for static shooting on a square range. When shooting on the move and frequently in changing light, seeing the edges of the front sight becomes much more difficult while the need for accuracy greatly increases. Close-fitting sight pictures make it difficult to align the 4-corner reference points of the top of the rear sight and top of the front sight in low light. The corners become blurry and proper alignment becomes almost impossible. This effect is also common among shooters with poor eyesight and aging eyes. R3D night sights use a notch that is 15% wider than the front sight and is amplified by the pistol's slide length. Front Sight Focus The high contrast green or orange front paired with our blacked-out rear sight makes sight alignment easy. With over 20 years of night sight manufacturing experience, we have learned that gunfights don’t happen in perfect light or complete darkness. They happen in between these two broad spectrums. Night sights don’t just need to glow in the dark. They need to be visible at all times. During defensive altercations, you may experience an adrenaline rush that will cause your basic motor functions to become clumsy, fixated tunnel vision on the threat, and most likely both you and your attacker will be moving. Combat accuracy is crucial at this point, but people tend to not look at their sights when shooting in this situation (this is not point shooting). Our R3D (formerly RAM) sights ensure the big, colored, glowing front sight will be in your line of sight for a combat accurate sight picture that allows for a simple, sufficient alignment when there is insufficient time and distance between yourself and the threat day or night.
